WhatsApp’s New Move, Takes Away its USP

Do you use WhatsApp on your laptop? Via the official WhatsApp Web clients for Mac and Windows? Are you excited by the new multi link feature that allows you to login and connect it on 4 different linked device?

Trouble Ahead!

Enabling all this probably required a lot of architectural changes. Someone from WhatsApp Engineering or Meta team can explain — Shout Out to them — -

But this ruins the USP that WhatsApp is simple and fast

Previous to this release, WhatsApp Web used to keep all chats loaded in it’s desktop client and had full access to search history in a super efficient model

But now,

You can only search for history of last 2 years or so

Also, Many documents/media messages won’t load properly

While previously any message on phone and WhatsApp Web/Desktop client was in sync without a lag of even a second, Now it may take hours for the same

The problems of cloud!

All this takes away the super speed execution one could do with WhatsApp Web. One has to fall back on the phone for this.

Take for eg this use case, copying text between PC and windows, just message yourself on whatsapp via the desktop client and copy from mobile, But alas, it’s unreliable now

And I am sure you would remember that for checking internet connection people use Google, SpeedTest and Fast and WhatsApp as well, because no matter how bad the network is WhatsApp was always and is optimised to get the message across.

Lot more feedback on WhatsApp’s change in store, Stay tuned.

That’s all for this quick blurb or blabber! Or RANT you may say :)
